1 Samuel 17:38 "Then Saul gave David his own armor—a bronze helmet and a coat of mail." How many times have I used someone else's armor because they thought they knew what was best for me? How many times have I deliberately chosen to hear the words of Saul then the words of our Holy Living God? I find it so ironic that the very armor that others want us to wear, is often the armor that gets us hurt or in trouble. I am not suggesting that we not wear physical protection in certain situations, however in this case, I believe all this physical protection would have shown that David had lack of faith in God. I love what the next verse says 39 "David put it on, strapped the sword over it, and took a step or two to see what it was like, for he had never worn such things before.“I can’t go in these,” he protested to Saul. “I’m not used to them.” So David took them off again." I want to be more like David. I want to be more like the shepherd boy who knew that a rock and sling were more than enough armor because he had faith in a God who had never let him down. I want faith that says I will face this giant with the full armor of God and not the armor of man!
