In "Don't Do It" Part 1 I told you not to write your goals until you read my blog on the subject. I talked about how our thoughts play a big part in our ability to set and reach goals. I mentioned we need to align our thinking to the process of achieving goals.

The following are the steps I suggested we take before we set our goals and I briefly shared my thoughts on step one.

1. Find out what the plans are for our life.
2. Make it our spiritual, mental and emotional focus.
3. Set our life goals around the plans.

Today I will focus on step two.

When we take the much needed time to do the work it takes to "find the call" for our lives, we begin to see ourselves in Gods grand plan and realize we play a significant part in it. At that point we start connecting to the plan spiritually, mentally and emotionally. This is an exciting part of the process. At least it was for me. I spent so much time on step 1 and straying in other directions that once I settled into the fact of God's plan for my life, I was able to enjoy feeling and knowing I am a part of a great plan that is so much bigger than me and that I can make a difference in this world.

Step 2 is to connect spiritually, mentally and emotionally with the plan for your life that has been set by God Himself. Connecting in this way helps prepare you for the long haul to fulfill the plan. Connecting gives you an internal picture of the call on your life. It gives you the Architects rendition of the finished product before the building process starts.

This is a very necessary step because as a man thinks, so is he. This step gives you a target, a definite purpose and a set direction to move in. It's a compass when the plans don't make sense. Focus, as the American Heritage Dictionary defines it as: "The state of maximum distinctness or clarity of such an image." The end result of the plans is the image we must focus on before we walk out our life. The eleven apostles didn't maximize their life until they had clarity of the call on their life. When they had a bigger picture of who they were in Christ and what they were to accomplish in their life, they started to live the life they were born to live.

Proverbs 4:25-26 (Amp)
Let your eyes look right on [with fixed purpose], and let your gaze be straight before you.
Consider well the path of your feet, and let all your ways be established and ordered aright.

When studying these verses in the original language it's states: With our mental and spiritual eyes we are to regard, pay attention to and consider a straightforward course. Weigh mentally and ponder the trench our feet will make so we can endure this course of life.

Just as it takes time to find out what the plans are for our life this will also take time. Just as builder will need to look back at the Architects rendition of the finished product from time to time, so we will need to look back in our heart, mind and spirit to keep moving forward when lose focus and forget our path.

I do this often because I have a tendency to get ideas for business and I have to remind myself that I have a plan I need and want to follow. It is human nature to stray off of our plans if we are not focused and have a clear picture of the end result of our life.

I know that this isn't a quick way of goal setting but God isn't usually quick in our world and He does have a process for us to succeed in this life. I'm in this with you and I have to do the process also. I know at times it seem to not be working or moving fast enough but remember before we set goals we need to set ourselves up for success by preparing ourselves for success. We need to realign our thinking by "finding the call" for our life first, connecting spiritually, mentally and emotionally to that call so we can follow Gods blueprint for our lives.

Stick with it, do your homework and you will be on your way to living the life God has called you to live.
