Every day it seems like the state of the world gets worse. War breaks out between countries; families are starving to death due to famine, and crime in our own cities strikes fear in our hearts. Is the end of the world near?

Matthew 24:6-7: “You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. For nation shall rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famine, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places.” Since these things are occurring now almost on a daily basis, is the end of the world near?

Some are of the opinion that there are more wars, earthquakes, famine and disease than ever before but is this really true? History books are filled with stories of war, and famine and disease have been around almost since the beginning of time.

Jesus tells his disciples that false teachers will rise up and try to lead Christians into believing that the end of the world is near when they see these events occurring. What does Jesus want us to do with this information? Verse 6 tells us not to be alarmed, that these things must take place first before the end comes.

We don’t have to worry about when the end of the world comes, because Jesus tells us He is coming at an hour when no one will expect Him. Matthew 24:42: “Therefore keep watch because you do not know which day your Lord will come.”
