Jethro, the father-in-law of Moses helped Moses to learn the art of delegating responsibility. Instead of Moses being swarmed with the problems and needs of the people as had been the case before Jethro's arrival , Moses would now be addressing only the thorniest of problems and the most complicated of needs. ( It's noteworthy that the solution that God provided to the problem lay as close as a visiting family member.)
It occurs to me that many of us are doing the same with our God today. We have dragged this effective Old Testament practice of delegation and measuring need into the New Testament! By this I mean that we bring only our most serious needs and problems to God as the Israelites brought theirs to Moses, and attempt, sometimes unconsciously or half- consciously, to “tough it out” or "grind it out," or to deal with the rest in our own human ingenuity and our own fleshly strength, as if God couldn’t be bothered with such little stuff.
The results of this “Moses strategy” have been less than fruitful to say the least. But God wants to be the God of ALL our “stuff” big or small and there’s not as much difference between the two in His eyes as we might think.
