Endurance

My ability to endure is nothing
Compared to the One who bled and died.
Through love and patience
He was obedient even unto death
On a cross.

Endurance is how He lived
His life,
Before the entire world;
He lived with love and patience
To all who pressed Him
Round about.
Though wearied through
Walking many miles,
Healing and teaching as He went,
He spent His whole life working,
For He knew why
He was sent.

Jesus waited for the perfect time,
A divine appointment He needed to keep.
He spilled His precious blood
For all mankind,
So that we might be saved from sin.

Endurance is how He spent his final hours.
His blood came pouring down
From a savage beating,
And the crown of thorns
They crushed into His skull.
Even then, He knew that it was not yet
Time for Him to die,
There were still prophetic acts
To keep before His life was spent.

This sinless man, our Messiah,
Endured His final hours
Nailed to a cross of shame.
The sky went dark,
And the Father turned His back,
On the Son He loved so much;
Our sin, the final scourge
To His fragile frame.
As he took His final breath
He cried aloud,
"It is finished,"
His final prophetic act.
Jesus died, and the world
Did not perceive its loss;
A sinless man offered up His life
Upon a rugged cross.
A perfect gift through sacrifice
Is what He came to do,
The Father made a way
Through Jesus' life
To redeem both me and you.

Help me, Lord,
To endure in the things
You've planned for me to do.
To walk in Your strength
And with integrity,
And to do what I do, for You.
