Remember what Elijah told Elisha after Elisha asked him for a double portion of his anointing? That he had asked a hard thing but that if Elisha would catch sight of him as he ascended he would indeed receive that double portion. (2 Kings 2) And Elisha did observe that ascencion.

The disciples too witnessed the ascension of Jesus their Saviour who had been their rabbi. He had told them (John 14 v.12) they would do greater things than He (a kind of double portion in itself) because He was going to the Father and would do those things through them as they prayed to the Father in the name of Jesus. The disciples were going to need to continue to see Jesus walking in their midst through eyes of faith, after he was physically removed from them. He was to be their portion like Yahweh was to the Old Testament Levites.

When every other tribe had an inheritance in land they could see. and touch with the soles of their feet, the Levites had to walk by faith in theirs through their priestly relationship with Yahweh. (Deuteronomy 18) As His priesthood today, we are not to be in this for anything or anyone we can get out of it, but solely for the One we love Who loved us first and is our Portion, even as we,  as God's people,  are His portion. (Deuteronomy 32 v.9)

We are not to be in this primarily for some desired benefit or change, or quality or sought-after attribute,  even if it is so that we can testify, “I’m changed, I used to be this but now I’m that, you can have or be that too!” NO, it's a question of who is at the center of this.  “But GOD is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” GOD and GOD alone. “None (and nothing) I desire upon earth besides You.” (Psalm 73)

It's all about Jesus. Nothing and no one else deserves his glory! Still it is encouraging to see the lives affected and changed by the power of God. Even Jesus healed and set free so that those were once bound could Share their testimony. But only for the glory of GOD!
