I'll never forget the day. In the winter of 2008, my mother signed a lease to a new townhome. As we were unpacking all of her things, I felt a strange heaviness come over me, like a cloud in the air. I sat down in a chair, looking around the empty room, and heard and felt something telling me, "This is not her home. In one year she will not be here." Sure enough, one year later, the land lord refused to renew the lease and wanted to sell off the property. My mother called me to her room in a state of shock. How could I have known this?

Well, we as Christians call that 'The Holy Spirit.' If any of us are sensitive to his voice, we know when we're being spoken to. Since that day, I have seen many similar things happen. But nothing as scary as what God has been drilling into me over the last couple of years.

The pastor of my previous church was throwing a "Back to School" summer event at our church building. After all of the festivities, he began to pray for the youth. In his prayer, he said, "You never know, one of these young people could be the next president of the United States of America." Suddenly, I felt that heavy feeling again, and a voice telling me, "No, they won’t!" I opened my eyes and stared at everyone standing around. The voice spoke again, "You don't have long enough for that to happen." Although the statement scared me, the voice was undeniable. It was the same feeling and voice from all the times before. Not to mention it was a thought that had been with me for the past couple of years, but a thought that I marveled at, rather than accepted. Since then, I have heard of two other people who have heard this same voice (if those people choose to identify themselves, they will)

Now, before you label me a heretic, keep in mind that I wasn't given a specific date and time, keeping in line with the scripture "No one knows the day and hour of the coming of the son of man." I was simply told we don't have long enough for the current generation of school-aged children to grow up to be a new generation of government. But the point God was giving me was this:

"My church is dangerously ill prepared for my return. The very fact that they will dispute you on this matter shows that they're not. My children were commanded to "Eagerly await my return." Wouldn't news of it cause an eager person to celebrate? But instead, they will find cause to dispute it, because they still love this world. Gather those who will listen."

This shouldn't be looked at as an article, but rather a message to the church. I had always been unsatisfied and a little uncomfortable in church service, and the voice I heard that day confirmed why. The church's mixing and meshing with American prosperity and culture has severely watered-down the Gospel. If we follow this distorted version of the Gospel and conform to its 'America-friendly' approach, we will be shocked at where we are on that faithful day. And according the Holy Spirit, we need to start this clean-up process now, because we don't have too much longer.
