Grasping the idea behind The Tabernacle of David is of utmost importance for the Church in the time we are living in. Let's read the passage of Scripture found in Acts 15:13-17
“James answered, saying, Men and brethren, hearken unto me: Simeon hath declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name. And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written, After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up: THAT the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things”
In other words, the Lord said in these verses: If the Gentiles are really going to seek after Me, it can happen ONLY IF I set up once more the Tabernacle of David.
There is a concept and a principle here. David did a revolutionary thing during his lifetime. In order to reach God in the Old Testament, people had to sacrifice animals and depend on the priests as mediators between them and God. All sacrifices had to be brought to the “Tabernacle of Moses”. Nobody could approach God without the right sacrifice. Also, nobody could offer the sacrifice anywhere else, but in the Moses' Tabernacle area.
During the lifetime of David, the “Tabernacle of Moses” was still there, in Gibeon, and was fully functioning, sacrifices and all. At that time, the Ark of the Covenant, the representation of the Presence of God, was not in that Tabernacle, since it was captured by the Philistines. Now David retrieved it, but did NOT return it to the Tabernacle of Moses in Gibeon. Instead, he decided he should set up a new Tabernacle in Zion, Jerusalem, and call it: "The Tabernacle of David". The Ark was placed there.
Now, the interesting part: David appointed priests, musicians, singers, etc, and commanded them to offer sacrifices to the Lord, but those would not be animal sacrifices. Those would be sacrifices of singing, praising and worshiping the Lord, praying, and playing on the instruments before God. David appointed enough musicians (thousands, actually), so they can Praise and Worship the Lord God of Israel NON-STOP, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Wow, right? If some church leader does that, even today, it would still be considered a great thing, but please have in mind that David did that while still in the Old Testament. The “Tabernacle of Moses” was still functioning full speed, with animal sacrifices and offerings for the sins of the nation of Isreal. David, though, saw prophetically much ahead of His time, in the future. He saw clearly that the Heart of God was yearning for a deeper relationship with His people, which could ONLY be accomplished through their surrendering themselves in Praise and Worship!
Now in Acts 15, we see the Lord wanting to build the Tabernacle of David again (not the Tabernacle of Moses). This speaks of God’s greatest desire still being that His own seek Him, Praise Him, Worship Him, Adore Him, Magnify Him and to give Him the Glory 24 / 7. When we do that wholeheartedly, the residue of men and the Gentiles will definitely start seeking the Lord themselves, saying: “We want that same Glory”. Psalm 85:9 says that the Lord has saved us, so that His Glory may dwell in our land. That’s the practical aspect of our being saved, on this side of heaven – to be carriers of His Glory. But, in order for us to be at all able to carry it out, we must have first experienced it ourselves, first hand, and that can only happen if we open our hearts to Him the way David and then Jesus, understood it.
God Bless You!
