“...in these last days [God] has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much better than the angels, as He has inherited a more excellent name than they.” - Hebrews 1:2-5

The Christmas season is truly upon us. Trees are up. Lights are out. Melodies are playing. We celebrate the birth of our blessed Redeemer in just a few weeks, and with every coming day comes a day closer to the birth of my own child.

Twelve weeks from now, I will be rushing my lovely bride to the hospital in anticipation of the birth of our little girl. And in that delivery room, when my little one breathes her first breath, I will stare into her newly opened eyes and see something quite unique - something that I have never seen in another child. I will see myself - a part of me. In the most mysterious of ways, she won’t be a stranger to me. She will have many of my features and tendencies. She may laugh like I laugh or cry like I cry. She will be made in my image, in the exact representation of who I am.

But it doesn’t stop there. In her first moments of life, she will have all that I have. Nothing will be held from her. All of my heart, knowledge, emotion, and possessions will belong to her. There is an inheritance waiting, and she won’t have to do anything to earn it. She will be my daughter. Why wouldn’t I give her all that I have?

It makes sense.

I am starting to understand how God felt. Staring down from on high, he watched Joseph rush his bride to a stable in anticipation of the birth of a son. And in that manger scene, when that little boy breathed his first breath, God glared into the eyes of His son and saw something quite unique - something He had never seen in another child. He saw Himself. This little boy was unique - unlike any other child. He was made in the exact representation of God and was the radiance of His glory.

But it doesn’t stop there. Without performing a single act of goodness, Jesus had an inheritance. Everything that his Father had was his. All of God’s heart, knowledge, emotion, and possessions were given to Jesus in a moment. He was the sole recipient of the greatest inheritance fathomable by human comprehension because he is God’s son. Why wouldn’t He give him all that He has?

It makes sense.

I’m beginning to understand why God would give all that He has to His son. I will do the same for my little one. She will be part of me so it makes sense. But God goes further than this. It doesn’t stop with Jesus. God goes so far that it almost doesn’t make sense.
“Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, ‘Abba! Father!’ Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God.” - Galatians 4:6-7

God looked into the eyes of his newly born son and saw himself, and when God looks into your eyes, he sees himself. He sees a glimpse of himself. He sees His features and tendencies. Maybe when you laugh, you laugh like Him, or when you cry, you cry like Him. Rest assured, you are no stranger to God.

Oh and that great magnificent heavenly inheritance that was solely for Jesus, it is also yours. And you have to do nothing for it but be born. When you say yes to God’s adoption, he sees you as His own son or daughter. All of His heart, knowledge, emotion, and possessions are available to you. You are His child. Why wouldn’t He give you all that he has?

It makes sense.
