Scott Hamilton, Olympic skating gold medalist said: “The only true disability in life is a bad attitude.” I’m wondering: Is it possible to have a bad attitude and to display a heart of thankfulness at the same time? As I pondered this question, God gave me a fresh insight from Luke 17:12-18.

“As He entered a village, ten leprous men who stood at a distance met Him; and they raised their voices, saying, "Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!"When He saw them, He said to them, "Go and show yourselves to the priests." And as they were going, they were cleansed. Now one of them, when he saw that he had been healed, turned back, glorifying God with a loud voice, and he fell on his face at His feet, giving thanks to Him. And he was a Samaritan. Then Jesus answered and said, "Were there not ten cleansed? But the nine…where are they? "Was no one found who returned to give glory to God, except this foreigner?"

Note what Jesus said. Have you ever considered that when you thank God for your blessings, you are actually giving glory to God?

Heb.13:15 -16 “Through Him then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His name….”

One more verse: Ps. 50:23 "He who offers a sacrifice of thanksgiving honors Me….”

Not only does our thanks give God ‘glory’ but it is also a sacrifice of ‘praise’! Isn’t that awesome! And beyond that, we have the opportunity everyday to ‘honor’ God with thanksgiving. Glory and honor and praise. Seems like there’s a song about that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ydeu7NlP-Xc

In our homes we have a choice. We can either be the thermometer or the thermostat. What does a thermometer do? It reflects the temperature in the home. What does a thermostat do? It determines the temperature. When we're the thermometer we simply reflect the mood of the home. If there's grumbling, discontent, anxiety, we're just a part of it. If we are the thermostat, then we regulate the mood and set the atmosphere of the home. We have the potential to position the thermostat to a thankfulness setting. Now, that’s empowering!

Ps. 92:1 “It is good to give thanks to the LORD.” What are some of the benefits of a thankful heart?
1. Satisfaction with what you have! Contentment, joy, and peace
2. Thinking of others and realizing, it’s not all about me.
3. Toxic emotions blocked (resentment, anger, depression, regret)

No, you can’t have a bad attitude and be thankful at the same time! Could we say then that an unthankful attitude closes doors in life but “Gratitude is the key to opening many doors and possibilities?”

Think about it….

1Thess. 5:18 “In everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
