Remembering what God has done in our lives, in the past, is a powerful stabilizer of trembling hearts in times of uncertainty!

As his enemies made remarks to provoke or hurt him, David remembered how he used to lead a large crowd of people in formation to the house God “with glad shouts and songs of thanksgiving” to keep the time of festival (Ps. 42:4) and began to question why he was sad in the light of God’s goodness to him.

Jesus comforted his sad and discouraged disciples by telling them to remember that he will come back again- a news that should encourage all of us who are waiting for the Lord’s coming to bring salvation.

Remembering the Lord’s goodness gives edge to our lives, as Christians, and cuts through the junk that life throws at us; it gives birth to trust and clarity in the midst of fear and obscurity. Rabbi Baal Shem Tov said, “Forgetfulness leads to exile while remembrance is the secret of redemption”. And don’t we need to be redeemed often from feelings of discouragement, doubt, fear, insecurity, and uncertainty!

As we remember His kindness, just like the Jesus Fellowship songs says, we grow in boldness and are able to pray, “take us onto the future, pioneering with the strong.”
