OUR LORD’S PRAYER…
“Our Father, which art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy Name;
Thy Kingdom Come, Thy Will be done on earth, as it is in Heaven;
Give us this day our daily Bread
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;
And lead us not into temptations, but deliver us from evil;
For thine is the Kingdom, and the Power, and the Glory, forever. Amen”- MATTHEW 6:9-13
The Lord’s Prayer… almost every Christian is familiar with it, and can recite it off-hand like it’s an anthem. But you see, we’ve kinda misused/ misinterpreted it. Check Matthew 6:9, you’ll see that that before Jesus gave this prayer; He gave an instruction (which we’ve overlooked). He said “After this manner, pray…”. He didn’t say “Pray this prayer when ye pray…”. The Lord’s prayer is supposed to be a pattern we follow when we pray, it’s not really a prayer on its own, though it sounds like one.
So how do we follow this prayer-pattern? You may ask. Well, by God’s Grace, I’ll briefly break it down.
“Our Father, which art in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name”
Here, this is just about acknowledging God, reverencing Him with due respect and Honor, which corresponds with Hebrews 11:6 “..for He that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.” It’s also about worshipping God in Spirit and in Truth as you enter into, and welcome His Presence; giving Him Thanks.
“Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done on Earth, as it is in Heaven”
After acknowledging God, pray. But notice that the first thing we’re asked to pray for is His Kingdom, similar to Matthew 6:33. This means 2 things
1 Praying that His Kingdom (Righteousness in our Will, Peace in our mind, and Joy in our emotions by the Power of The Holy Ghost) be formed in us individually and collectively, and that His Will be made perfect in our lives as our “free will “ becomes “His Will”.
2 It’s about praying that His Kingdom be established, and His Will be done on earth (Isaiah 66). It’s up to us to hasten His Coming in us, and here on Earth; that His Glory may be manifest in and through us, and His presence and influence may fill (or be felt over all) the earth. God’s waiting on us.
“Give us our daily Bread”
Hold on, don’t think about food for the body yet, this is more about our daily manna from Heaven, food for our Spirit and soul, the Word. Notice again, He instructs us to ask for it daily, even though we have our bibles. He wasn’t talking about head knowledge we get when we read the bible, but the revelation knowledge we get when we study the Word under the influence of The Spirit (who teaches all things John 14:26.), wisdom. No wonder James tells us to ask for wisdom “in Faith” James 1:5-7.
Daily bread for “the body”, I won’t talk about it, since we’re already experts at asking for it, besides God said we shouldn’t worry about what to eat. All I’ll say is “It’s more blessed to give than it is to receive”… In the manifold wisdom is hidden “the secrets, wisdom and power to get “God’s kind” of wealth.
“And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.”
Coincidentally, if I may say, this is number 4 in the pattern. “Four”, which signifies balance… You see, the validity of your whole prayer hangs on a balance we call “forgiveness”. Hold on, think of this, if Jesus, as GREAT as He is, could have humbled Himself enough to die for us that we may be forgiven, what’s stopping us from forgiving others? Are we Greater than Him? Besides, how will you boldly come into His presence? Okay let’s assume you sneak in, impossible though, how will you have confidence to ask, and believe that you’ve received what you asked for? See how important forgiveness is? As well as self- judgment and correction (1 Corinthians 10:12). Well, may God help us all.
“And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil”
Don’t take the first part of this quote in its literal sense, because God won’t lead you into temptations (1 Corinthians 10:13). Yes temptations will come, but if you rely on God’s Grace (not your ability) and walk with Him closely and Faithfully, He will make a way of escape for you, lead you through it.
Deliverance from evil, I won’t really say it’s talking about healing from sicknesses and diseases, because just before Jesus died, He said “It is Finished!”, all those things went to the grave with Him. Besides The Bible says, “by His stripes we are healed”, it didn’t say “By His stripes, we will be healed”. No, its all said and done, whenever you feel any pain/ sickness in your body, acknowledge the finished works of Christ, every good thing you have in Him (Philemon 1:6). Believe His Word, confess, speak it and boldly stand on what The Word says, ignoring what your body wants you to feel/ accept, lest you sink like Peter did. Speak The Word to whatever situation, you an overcomer. 1 John 4:4, 5:4.
“And thine is The Kingdom, the Power and the Glory, Forever. Amen!”
Just like the first step, acknowledge God, give Him all The Glory and Honor, for the Victory in battle prayer/ intercession was based on God’s ability, yours is a major- minority (Proverbs21:31, Romans 9:16). Not only in prayer, but also in other aspects of your life as well, all Glory must be unto God. Moreover, since the Kingdom (Righteousness, Peace and Joy in the Holy Ghost) is being formed in you; then this is also about dedicating your life to God, all that you are, all that you have unto God, The Potter’s Hands.

And that’s that about the Lord’s prayer, remember, it’s not really a prayer in itself, but a pattern to follow while praying. Selah!
