THE ESCAPE
The bright-looking girl with thick kinky hair and chocolate skin quickly shot out to become a tall elegant woman with contours that sent eyes reeling. With her stretched hair weaved in a pony tail that tumbled down her back, she gave the world a true assessment of Beauty.
On a rainy Sunday, at Tamara Place, an exquisite bar in the heart of Paris, Vanessa ticked the seventh item on her dream list when she met Dan Brown, the perfect gentleman. Six months later, Vanessa had her ring finger occupied. The first two months had her wondering who she was to deserve an everlasting blissful union. But by the third month, Dan began to act really weird. Soon, Vanessa's body bore scars of frequent visits to the dreaded torture chamber located right in the middle of the gigantic mansion. Who could she tell that her handsome breath-taking husband needed a visit to a psychiatrist? Who would help her find out what happened to her man after the death of his first wife whom he never talked about until her sessions at the torture chamber. For two years, Vanessa was locked up in a large house with no means of reaching the outside world. Not even a servant to pour her heart to.
One morning, Dan informed her of his intention to travel to Toulouse for a funeral service. As usual, he locked up all the doors but Vanessa decided to take a chance. She walked towards his secret vault and saw it opened. Was this a trap? Dan would never do such a thing. She hurriedly filled a large bag with money and ran down the basement. The escape window she had played in her mind daily came in clear view. She got to work immediately and after five hours, she was out of the house. She ran all the way to the front of the building without being chased. Now she was scared. This was definitely a trap. I don't care, she thought. That night, she slept in a hotel as she made plans to travel to the safest place on earth- Africa. Dan would not be back in the next two weeks so time was on her side .With the money she stole, she was able to complete the required processes and before long she was on her way to Africa.
It has been five years since Vanessa landed at Oshogbo, a state in Nigeria. She had even begun to speak the local language and to dress like the people and was finally enjoying her peace when one evening she heard a knock on the door. 'Who is that? she asked in Yoruba. No response. She stopped in her track as fear gripped her. Out of impulse, she ran upstairs and searched frantically for a small note where she had inscribed a number given to her by her friend, Bimbo, in case of such eventualities. She dialed the number and stuttered into phone as she gave him her address. The loud bang at the back of her head made her stagger as she slowly turned to face her most dreaded enemy. Dan gave a wide grin as he walked towards her. In a flash, Vanessa was on the floor whimpering. With one hand, he covered her mouth and used the dagger in his other hand. He was about to stab her the second time when a strong hand flung him across the room. As Dan brought out his gun, the man finished him in an instant. Vanessa couldn't believe her eyes as Dan lay lifeless on the ground. Tears ran down her face in torrents. The man lifted her slowly and placed her on her back, cleaning out the blood gushing out from her back. It is over, she muttered, her eyes still fixed on the dead man.
.. And having spoiled principalities and powers, He made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it… Col2: 14.
