Lazarus, the brother of Martha and Mary, became sick
So, they sent word to The Lord, behold, he whom YOU Love is sick
When Jesus heard this, He said, to death this sickness would not lead
Jesus knew, through what would transpire, that He would intercede

For The Glory of God, that The Son of God, be Glorified
Though He knew Lazarus was sick, He didn’t rush to his side
Jesus stayed two more days, in the place where He was, at the time
Then He said, to The Others, let’s go to Judea, it’s time

They replied, The Jews sought to stone YOU, and now YOU want to go
He said, Our friend, Lazarus sleeps, to wake him up, We shall go
His Disciples said, Lord, if he sleeps, he will surely get well
Jesus spoke of his death, Lazarus is dead, and he might smell

So, Lazarus was dead, and remained in the tomb, for four days
In Abraham’s bosom, he would remain, for each of those days
There was a rich man, who wore purple and fine linen, each day
Lazarus, a poor man, hungered for the rich man’s crumbs, each day

He was full of sores, which dogs would lick, as he laid by the gate
Two men, with opposite viewpoints on Life, would soon meet their fate
Lazarus died, and was carried by The Angels, to Heaven
The rich man died, was buried, and he was ready to bargain

Why, because the rich man, was being tormented in Hades
He looked up, saw Abraham far away, and he yelled, Oh please
Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus
That some water, to cool my tongue, might be brought, by Lazarus

Father Abraham, I am tormented, in this endless fire
Abraham said, in your lifetime, YOU got your heart’s desire
While Lazarus, received evil things, now he is comforted
Abraham said, now you’re where, you’ll be forever tormented

Besides all this, there is a Great Gulf fixed, between Us and YOU
So, that those who may wish, to pass from here, cannot get to YOU
He went on, nor can those, from where YOU are, cross over to Us
The rich man said, then I beg YOU, father, please send Lazarus

To my father’s house, I’ve five brothers, that he may testify
Lest they also, come to this place of torment, and tell them why
Abraham said, they have Moses and The Prophets, let them hear
The rich man replied, no father Abraham, please make it clear

But if one goes to them, from the dead, they will surely repent
Abraham said, they will not, even if Lazarus is sent
Jesus knew, Lazarus’ death, would be a great revelation
A prelude, if you will, to Jesus Christ’s, own Resurrection

I’m glad, for your sakes, that I wasn’t there, that YOU may Believe
Let Us go to him, but Jesus didn’t mean, so they could grieve
Thomas told The Disciples, let’s go, that We may die with Him
When they arrived, he had been in the tomb four days, yet Trust Him

Martha said, Lord, if YOU were here, my brother, would not have died
I know, whatever YOU ask of God, God will give YOU, she cried
He said, your brother will rise again, but did she understand
She said, yes, in The Resurrection at The Last Day, as planned

He said, I’m The Resurrection and The Life, YOU must Believe
He who Believes in Me, though he may die, he shall Live, Believe
Whoever Lives and Believes in Me, shall never die, do YOU
She said, Lord, YOU are The Christ, The Son of God, I Believe YOU

Martha told Mary, The Teacher’s here, and is calling for YOU
Mary ran quickly to Jesus’ side, He would know what to do
She said, Lord, if YOU had been here, my brother would not have died
He saw her tears, then groaned in The Spirit, troubled deep inside

Jesus wept, then The Jews said, see how much He Loved Lazarus
He healed the blind, couldn’t He have stopped, the death of Lazarus
Jesus came to the tomb, a cave, with a stone laid against it
He said, take away the stone, Martha wanted no part of it

She said, Lord, what about the stench, for he has been dead four days
He said, didn’t I say, if YOU Believe, YOU would see God’s Ways
If YOU would Believe, YOU would see The Glory of God, he said
They rolled away the stone, from the cave, of the man who was dead

Then Jesus lifted up His Eyes, and said, Father, I thank YOU
YOU have heard Me, and I know that YOU always hear Me, it’s true
For these people, I said this, that they may Believe, YOU sent Me
That I am, The Son of The Living God, that YOU did send Me

Jesus cried out, Lazarus come out, and Lazarus complied
Lazarus walked out, still wrapped in grave clothes, stood by Jesus’ side
Jesus said to them, free him, and let him go, Alive and well
Many Jews, who witnessed this, Believed in Jesus Christ, as well

Lazarus, Jesus’ friend, who rose from the grave, literally
His Resurrection, Jesus would repeat, to Save YOU and me
A Lesson, about Accepting God’s Free Gift of Salvation
A choice to be made, by YOU, which leads to Hades or Heaven
