The statement is not trite; instead, it is true. ‘Misery loves company.’ In the past, I’ve thought of that as cruel, as if when suffering with the flu I’d I want others to feel that miserable too. No, I would not wish the flu on anyone. This morning, the LORD gave me a deeper look at the meaning behind misery loving company.

When, not if, I am dealing with misery I do not want to be alone. Christ Jesus understands; He too wanted the companionship and comfort of the Father.

“From noon until three in the afternoon darkness came over the whole land. At about three in the afternoon Jesus cried out with a loud voice, ‘Eli, Eli, lema’ sabachthani?’ that is, ‘My God, My God, why have you forsaken Me (Matthew 27:45-46 HCS).”

The Messiah, in His crucifixion misery sought the company of His heavenly Father. I have not endured the torment and misery of physical death on the cross; yet, I do depend upon God in my darkest hours.
