Stubbing my toe is painful and hitting the funny bone of my elbow is no laughing matter. Both are unintentional and fortunately, happen infrequently. The biting of my tongue takes me by surprise but is a self-inflicted pain I should ponder. I’d be far better off biting my tongue than back biting. [James 3:1-12]
“And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell. For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison (James 2:6-8 NKJ).”
There is an antidote for the tongues poison.
“But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-25 NKJ).”
