Devotionals
“ Solomon answered God, “You have shown great kindness to David my father and have made me king in his place. Now, LORD God, let your promise to my father David be confirmed, for you have made me king over a people who are as numerous as the dust of the earth. Give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may lead this people, for who is able to govern this great people of yours?” God said to Solomon, “Since this is your heart’s desire and you have not asked for wealth, possessions or honor, nor for the death of your enemies, and since you have not asked for a long life but for wisdom and knowledge to govern my people over whom I have made you king, therefore wisdom and knowledge will be given you. And I will also give you wealth, possessions and honor, such as no king who was before you ever had and none after you will have.” “chronicles 2: 8-11(NIV)
A devotion that captures the attention God is a great. This was the experience of the new king. He assessed the enormous challenges, responsibilities and the opportunities available. He needed help. This was real in his mind and searching for it. There, God gave him a blank cheque.
Such opportunities are rare and only few people can make the best use of it. Most especially in our generation when ninety nine percent of our prayers revolve round personal needs. Solomon was burdened with how to fulfil his purpose as a king. Humanly speaking, such opportunity would have produced several journals of requests of many pages. Solomon did not ask for any other things except the wisdom to rule and judge his people. In short, he requested to have God to fulfil his purpose. God and the whole heaven unanimously stamped “granted” with a lot of Add-on answers.
It is unfortunate that at the slightest opportunities of this nature, most of our request would have been the Add-on prayers while the real package is often ignored courtesy of our ignorance , greed, fear, doubt and lack of purpose.
I sincerely want God to help my life to spend little time presenting a request which answers have transforming effect and fruitfulness in the future than ask many things which if granted is quickly exhausted. A prime request that when answered, additional benefits of many add-on benefits not asked, yet provided as did to Solomon, because the request was prime one.
But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:33 (NIV)
