A syrupy Sunday morning,
the sky is icy blue
With absolutely nothing in mind
I begin to think of you
As tender as a baby’s breath
As soft as a kittens purr
They follow you into oblivion
Inane from the sirens lure
Like a lamb led unto slaughter
The hunger gnaws and grows
An insatiable wanton appetite
Wrapped in beauty, bane and cold
Fervid and enchanted
They descend steps worn & old
One after another,
into the chambers of your soul
As black as a moonless night
Regret is an endless toll
Paid in full through empty years
To a heart as dark as coal
Forgiveness is a forgotten friend
Whose door cannot be found
For those you left,
alone and bereft
And the ones who laid you down
