Spiritual obesity that blocks the entry into heaven

We have seen some people too fat and struggle to get through a narrow gate. Some persons cannot even try the entrance because of their excess obesity. We blame their obesity, for their inability to enter through the narrow gates. They find it difficult to make movements, even to walk. Obesity is the one of the greatest health problems of the day. It leads to several health problems and fatal diseases.

There are persons who are spiritually obese and struggle hard to pass through the narrow gate of redemption. They want to lead an easygoing life. They imagine that whatever they do is right and the heavenly bliss is reserved for them since they fulfill certain rituals and spiritual formalities.

The Holy Bible clearly speaks about the narrow path which is the only way, the only gate through which one can enter into the heavenly realm.

Is there anything like spiritual obesity that does not allow persons through the gates of heaven?

Spiritually obese persons

Jesus pointed out many of such obese persons who cannot enter into the kingdom of heaven. Jesus clearly warned about such people "who practice their righteousness in front of others to be seen by them." and those who do charitable deeds just to get a name or popularity. (Matthew 6: 1-2)

The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector clearly explains the characteristics of the spiritual obesity.

The Pharisee was very proud in his attitude and was boasting himself that he was righteous in every way. He was also mocking at the tax collector's unworthiness. The Pharisee was a spiritually obese person. (Luke: 18)

Simplicity and accepting the love of God as a child is the main criterion to fight against the spiritual obesity.

Jesus said, "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it." (Matthew 7:13-14)

(My personal reflections, based on the gospels)
