Pulling up to a traffic light, I was easing into the pace of the day. It seemed clear at that moment that each day possesses its own pace, and it is our responsibility to find it and flow with that pace. Taken further, it's not so much the pace of the day as the pace of our Lord WALKING in the day, as He walked in the garden with our first parents. It is the pace of our Lord "with whom we have to do" and be; and if we desire to walk with Him, which is to be and to do with Him what He is doing, then we need to discover His pace anew each day. Otherwise we will hurry past the thoughts He has for us to think and the feelings he has for us to feel, and the deeds He has for us to do with Him. Either that or we will lag behind them and arrive too late, striking when the iron is no longer hot but waxing less and less warm.
Hunting deer and moose in Alaska I was amazed at how swiftly and aggressively we had to move once the animal had been sighted and we had to keep "hot" on its trail. Without the other hunters as a "hustle-up" example, my pace would've been too laid back and ineffective to get any good results. As hunters and fishers of men we have similar opportunities approaching. God help us be ready for them, moving at the right pace for that time, HIS pace.
