JP Morgan Chase Bank Demands to Know Their Employees' Opinion on Homosexual Issues

JP Morgan Chase Bank, the largest bank in the United States, with assets totaling over $1.7 trillion, recently required its employees to take a survey on their opinions on issues involving homosexuality and whether they identify themselves as members of the homosexual "community".

Among the questions on this survey were whether or not the survey taker identified themselves as:
1. A person with a spouse/domestic partner with disabilities
2. A member of the LGBT community
3. An ally of the LGBT community, but not personally identifying as LGBT

These questions sought to identify the person as a homosexual and to determine if they identified themselves as part of the so-called "LGBT community". There were questions related to disabilities present in the survey to help cloud the issue, but Chase was actively seeking to know where its employees stood on issues related to sodomy.

Chase Bank employs over 260,000 employees in sixty countries, with 185,000 of these being employed in the United States. It is one of the largest financial institutions in the world.

When some of the bank's employees revealed the existence of this survey, Chase's immediate response was to ignore the question. They initially refused to confirm or deny the existence of the survey. However, when the issue raised significant attention, and the survey itself was hailed by pro-homosexual groups such as the Human Rights Campaign, they defended the survey and marginalized its impact. This organization gave Chase a 100% rating on its friendliness to homosexuality. It had specific ratings for health care related to "transgendered" individuals.

Jaclyn D’Aversa, the spokeswoman for JP Morgan Chase, defended the survey on the grounds that it was "voluntary and anonymous". She would not, however, reveal what was on the survey, how many of the bank's employees actually took the survey, or why it was required in the first place.

Bank employees who asked to remain anonymous for fear of reprisals from their employer, explained the survey was not anonymous because their employee ID numbers were included in the survey. For the employees, this meant two things: 1) The bank would know the specific answers of everyone who took the survey, and 2) The bank would know who did not complete the survey. It is unknown if the bank chose specific people to complete the survey (as apparently not all of their employees were required to complete it) because of some suspected opinion on the issue, but it certainly begs the question of how the bank determined who should take the survey and who should not. The employees, with their specific ID numbers present on the survey, understandably were placed in a catch-22 situation. If they did not complete the survey, the bank may assume that they did not agree with the bank's policies. If they chose to complete the survey, this question would not be in doubt, and the bank may act accordingly to dismiss the employees whose world view differed from theirs on this issue.

Chase Bank is a major supporter of homosexual issues. It has a number of "diversity" programs within its organization, including something called PRIDE, which specifically networks employees who identify themselves as members of the homosexual community (or identify themselves as "LGBT"). This fact, of course, is known to its employees, and further illustrates the pressures placed on those who were given the survey, whether they took the survey or not.

One of the employees who was given the survey explained his concern concerning one of the questions on the survey, specifically the question of whether or not he supported "LGBT" issues. He explained that if he did not answer the question affirmatively, it would be a "vague way to say 'I'm a bigot'". He explained that many of his fellow employees felt that the question was placed on the survey to single certain people out, and he felt that the question, though it should be irrelevant to his job, would place him on a list of employees that the bank could fire at will. This was a concern shared by others with whom this employee communicated.

Another employee with Chase confirmed the existence of the survey, and the specific question about being an "LGBT ally". He explained that he had "no idea what [the bank] was thinking when they asked that question". He, too, did not want his identity revealed, but he has been working for Chase for an undisclosed number of years.

The National Organization for Marriage, a group that supports traditional marriage and family values, has circulated a petition calling for a boycott of Chase Bank. Their project, which they have called "Void Chase" reportedly has over 4000 signatures.

Rick Santorum, the former United States Senator from Pennsylvania who also ran for president in 2012, spoke out against Chase's survey, questioning its purpose. “It seems like there’s an element of intimidation in trying to shape people’s points of view," he stated, adding that he is concerned that there may also be "punishment for people who don’t share the ‘proper’ point of view." This is the same concern expressed by the Chase employees who came forward and revealed the existence of the survey, and it is the reason why they are asking that their names or details be revealed.

For some time, Chase Bank has shown its liberal tendencies. Corporate executives ordered the removal of a donated Christmas tree at a Dallas bank in 2010, and many employees have expressed an underlying hostility towards Christianity. However, the bank has been particularly aggressive with its support of homosexual issues. It has a group called GLEAM that recruits on college campuses, and it also specifically recruits those identified as "LGBT" across the United States and Europe. The PRIDE network actively greets new employees who identify themselves through their sexually perverse lifestyle, and many employees have complained about emails sent out by PRIDE that cover a wide range of homosexual issues. One such email contained a story about an employee who felt that he was "in the wrong body". These emails are sent to all employees, many of whom neither support nor desire to reach such offensive material.

This pervasive problem with Chase is hardly unique among major corporations today, which are increasingly supporting "LGBT" issues, including homosexual "marriage" and other hot-button issues for this group. However, the implied threat of reprisal against employees who do not share the corporation's view excusing, and even embracing, sexual perversity, is a new low.
