With joy shall water be drawn from the wells of salvation! That led me to believe that the joy is like a bucket with which to draw.(Isaiah 12 v.3) And hundreds of years after those words were written the woman at the well remarked that Jesus had no bucket to draw with, so how was he going to produce this living water that he was talking about? This spoke he of the Holy Spirit who was soon to indwell his followers, and we could safely say that the bucket Jesus used was indeed his joy, for he was already full of the Holy Spirit including all the joyous fruit of that Spirit! But all that is to say this: we can tell when someone has been drawing and imbibing living water from the wells of salvation. "In that day they shall say 'Praise the Lord!' " They will have an uncontainable and incorrigible desire to thank and praise the Lord! There is a song whose lyrics go as follows: "---Praise God! Now I'm living in a new creation, now I'm drinking from the well of salvation, now there is no condemnation, Praise God!" One who drinks from that well can no longer feel, and act and think condemned. That one is convinced he or she is justified forever by the blood of Jesus. That one can no longer "beat up on him or her self' for long, because he or she is too busy thanking and praising the Lord to have space or time to entertain thoughts and feelings of condemnation. They may start to come, but if we are living and functioning in the new creation we can "catch ourselves" and say, "Oh no you don't!" These accusing thoughts may even come through loved ones but, nevertheless, they are not to be received. If anything, they are to be referred to the blood of Jesus our advocate and lawyer. One way we can recognize condemnation is that it criticizes us or attempts to criticize us for what we cannot control, either because it's in the past or otherwise outside of the realm of our responsibility. If we find ourselves ungrateful or entertaining condemnation, it is a sign we haven't been drinking enough from the wells of salvation which include the life-giving word of God, the praises and prayers of Zion, and the wonderful testimonies of the communion of saints! It's a sign we must be thirsty! It's very possible to be thirsty in this sense and not even realize it.
