Perhaps you believe Jesus promised you a mansion before He ascended into Heaven. Will you be disappointed if you're wrong? Will you be shocked to see that there are no mansions in Heaven? Streets of gold - yes, but mansions - not a one. Let's take a closer look at the passage that has everyone smiling and singing about the Heavenly mansions awaiting them. Did Jesus really promise us mansions or have we just misunderstood what He was trying to convey?
John 14 King James Version (KJV)
2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
Most of my life I believed that this passage indeed had promised me a mansion in Heaven. But after studying it more closely I'm seeing just the opposite. 2000 years ago when Jesus spoke these words there indeed were "many mansions" in His "Father's House". But what I believe Jesus was saying was not that He was going back to build(if you will) more mansions so that all the saints could receive their own, instead I believe He was telling us that He was returning to Heaven in order to tear down those mansions making Heaven the perfect place for His Bride. Notice He said " I go to prepare "A PLACE for you". "A Place" is singular. "Mansions" is plural and therefore means many places. I believe Jesus' plan was to remove all of the walls ie. mansions because walls/mansions separate space. I believe His goal was to remove anything and everything that could possibly separate us from Him and from each other. With all the walls/mansions torn down - Heaven would then be "A Place"... a single space where we all could be together....."so that where(ever) I AM, there, ye may be also". What do you think. Doesn't that make so much more sense??
