Did you know my secrets?
Did my little face betray,
all hurt that I was carrying,
and my sadness night and day?
You seen me young and smiling
Large brown eyes and braided
hair. You seen what looked like
innocence, but did you really
know whats there?
Did you see the child that's crying
behind my laughing eyes? Did you
hear my silent screaming when I
looked at you and smiled.
Did you watch me as I changed from
an awkward little girl to a charming
graceful woman, so 'alive' and 'well'.
How could you know the darkness
that only I could see. Oh those unseen
chain that bound me to my shame and
misery
Now you see me grown up, and may wonder
in surprise, at the unchecked tears
of sorrow that sometimes fill my eyes.
Or the sudden angry outburst that no one
has provoked, why I always like to run and
hide and why my trust is broke.
Be patient with me brother, the wounds
you never saw have come to light, are healing
though still very very raw
