The Grand Illusion

What do I feel?
What do you feel?
Many people say that they feel God in such a real way
A stark contradiction, poetic as it may seem

Feel is not real
Just as feeling you know does not make it so
Truth is the only real
And what is true is complete
Something emotions can rarely claim

We often use emotions to describe a relationship with our creator
Is God a feeling?
Of course not!
Yet He is real
The only perfect

Feelings change
So emotions can often lie
They mislead because they are based on experience and desire
God is found in neither

We want what we feel
And we feel what we want
So the world we see feeds this cycle
And our perception of reality becomes a selfish scorn
Leading us further from God

Only God is real
He is the sole Truth
And Truth is absolute
The single unchanging element of life

All other things will rise to fall
All else fades to nothing
The choice of our subsistence must fail
This world and every thing in it, along with us, will end
It will die
Yet this grand illusion we gladly purchase with our souls
