One reason Jesus began several of his sayings with “Amen, Amen” (as we read in John’s gospel) was because He was listening and responding to his Father who had so much to say to him, so much that was true, Who in fact could speak nothing but loving truth to him, truth that then had to be interpreted and relayed in his own words to suit the understanding of his followers, people who were like us who could handle only so much of it at a time even though it was and is truth spoken with such love as to be palatable to the hearer. And after all this, still, so little of it was understood at the time, and even what we think we understand of it now is merely the fundamental framework upon which He will be elaborating and expanding for an eternity of eternities!
