The Ten Commandments In Genesis 1

If you look up your Bible and open it to Genesis 1, you will notice that the expression "God said" appears ten times. All of it express God's will for the then formless and empty earth and its immediate atmosphere. He commanded things to be so, and it was so.

Bear in mind that the book of Genesis was written by Moses primarily to the nation Israel, who came out from the clutches and the influence of ungodly Egypt.

After he instructed them the will of God verbally, Moses set himself to write the book of Genesis to teach them to be faithful to the Old Covenant which they made with God, which was based on the Ten Commandments.

Ten Commandments and Ten "God saids", what's cooking here?
It was Moses' way of showing the nation Israel that if they want to be established as a nation, they must be faithful to the Old Covenant.

Just as the earth was established by God through His Word, so Israel, as a nation, can be established by obeying God's Word, the Ten Commandments.

They were a nation of slaves. And many must have been asking: "Can we, as a people who came from slavery, make it as a nation? We are practically out of resources, broken, bent out of shape through the torturous back-breaking slavery we experienced back in Egypt, can we make this work Moses?"

And Moses here answers: "Look, just as God's Word established the earth back then when it was without form and empty, God can establish you if you obey His Word. Your stability and strength is in obeying God's commandments like what happened in the beginning. Obeying His Word can shape you and fill you. Just be what God said!"
