Our Great High Priest is sitting still (and still sitting) beside the Father, unlike the ones of old who only entered the Holy of Holies once a year on the Day of Atonement and were continually astir, a stirring that the other priests in the temple could hear due to the ringing of the bells of pure gold attached to the bottom of the High Priest’s robe. The bells alternated with pomegranates, signifying among other things: hear and act, hear and do, strategize and implement, all the way around the hem (of life.) But the Great High Priest Jesus is now seated, His blood has already been sprinkled on the mercy seat in heaven, of which the one in the temple on earth was a mere copy. Our Great High Priest is not restless, He is not even standing except I believe to receive His rapidly multiplying martyrs, as we read He did for Stephen , but he is sitting still at His Father’s side. He is “in session” theologians say. He and His Father are continuously in session and the Holy Spirit keeps the minutes.
