“If it’s the last thing I do” are strong words. I’m aware that I should use them carefully. The last thing that Lot’s hesitant wife did came at a high cost. She died. To this day, Bible readers know that Lot’s wife looked back. Big mistake, bad decision.
Why so bad? The Lord told Lot, along with his family, to flee from the wicked city of Sodom. It was impossible for his wife to advance forward while looking backward.
“But his wife looked back and became a pillar of salt (Genesis 19:26 HCS)”
I am wary of second glances back. Paul did not look back with regret. He stayed focused on his goal.
“Brothers, I do not consider myself to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: forgetting what is behind and reaching forward to what is ahead (Philippians 3:13 HCS).”
Who knows? The next thing I do may well be my last.
