Encouragement
The world isn’t perfect, things happen we can’t explain; things happen that don’t make since. There are numerous theories concerning why these things happen; perhaps it is all part of God’s divine plan, perhaps it is the devil doing his dirty work, perhaps God just allows these things to happen. However, as Christians we know that God has the power to wipe every tear from our eyes, surely the God who brought the Israelites out of the land of Egypt, the God who sustains the entire universe, could prevent the times of trial which life in evidently brings. No matter what the cause, the question remains; if God is able to stop these things, why does he allow them to continue?
Actually, God will take care of these things, at the proper time. For now, though, he allows them to continue; but why? I cannot claim to know the pain of anyone else or to understand their trials; but I can explain why I believe God allows tragedy to continue in our lives.
Christianity is about change, it’s about changing from a creature of the world, a creature of sin, to a child of God. The first step (and the hardest step) was completed by God, through Christ; the rest is left up to us. When we place faith in Christ, we allow God to work in us, to change us into the kind of people we were meant to be; this change won’t happen overnight, in fact, it will take your entire life to complete. The change will be completed, rest assured; if you truly put your faith in Christ, he will mold you, as the potter molds the clay, into the person he designed you to be.
Here’s a pop quiz: Where did Jesus go after his baptism? The answer: The wilderness; to go without food for forty days, and then to be tempted with sin. Likewise, when we become Christians, God doesn’t immediately remove all the pain from are lives; rather, he sends us out into the wilderness, out into the world, and the world is not without its problems.
The transformation one takes from being a creature of the world to a child of God is a long one, and tedious. God uses the pain in our lives to help mold us. I, personally, do not believe God intentionally causes these things, but rather allows them to happen; He uses the weight world to help mold us into creatures of heaven.
After we except Christ, why doesn’t God remove our pain? We have already come to him, after all, why must pain continue? Couldn’t God just tell us how to live life so we would have no more pain or sorrow? Well actually, He did, but the flaws of the world, and our imperfections prevent us from experiencing life as it should be; until that time which God comes in glory. This is our hope; that pain is not forever, that torment and trials are not eternal, but that God is good, and God is love, and God is everlasting.
It is through Christ that God shows his love, and his grace. It is through Christ that we become children of God, become what we failed to be by ourselves. It is through Christ that this happens, and we must put our faith in Christ for this to happen. This is why I believe God allows the trials in our lives to continue; because in our darkest moments, why must put our faith in God. In our times of weakness, we must call upon Him to be our strength. Faith in God is a life long process, and our initial acceptance of the truth is merely the first step in a much longer journey; throughout this journey, God uses the trials of life to make us surrender ourselves more fully to him.
Remember: You must knead the dough, before you can bake the bread. So must we be worked and kneaded, before we can rise to glory.
