We Are Still Together (A Marriage Tribute)

Reflection. Maintaining a marriage can be a challenge, especially in the times that we live in today. I was married for 45 years until my husband passed away two years ago. Times have certainly changed where it is a rarity to see couples weather the storms that may come in marriages. I write poetry and wrote this poem as a tribute to the institution of marriage. I have other poems that can be read on www.poetry.com. Marriage is sacred and a commitment that few honor seriously. Coming from a Christian point of view, commitment should be foremost when reciting your marriage vows in the presence of God my husband and I truly believed in Matt:19:6, ‘…What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.” Although there are some circumstances that are lawful for divorcing, prayer, forgiveness, and commitment kept us together.
Courting. When we first met we were smitten with each other you bet. We courted and we wed.
Years rolled by and it was ten, and we were still together. Our children were born and people admired us without scorn and we still were not forlorn and we were still together. Through good times and bad times the years rolled by and it was twenty and we were still together. The children grew up and had children of their own and other good seeds were sewn and the years rolled by and it was forty and we were still together. Time kept on rolling and we were bowling down the obstacles of life and the years rolled by and we reached the landmark of fifty years and were the envy of our peers at the wedding ceremony and gave our testimony that we were still together.

Now we have reached a milestone of 60 years and still going strong, proving that marriage can't be wrong because it is possible for it to be lonnng cause we are STILL TOGETHER!!!!
As I look back over the years of my marriage, it was not easy and there were times when I thought we were not going to make it; but communication and commitment always made it possible for us to overcome the hurdles because we made a vow to each other and God. What has happened to change that commitment in the world?
