Ever since I was saved in 1999, I have had an almost insatiable desire to learn as much as I can about God, and His place in my life and in the world. In the last twelve years, I have read 97% non-fiction dealing with the Bible, Christian Living, Jesus, the Gospel, etc... Like Daniel and his friends, my life has not always been conducive to learning. Dealing with a sexually abused past, bi-polar syndrome, depression, divorce, and bad finances did not always give me the "space" my brain needed to want to learn. But even through the bad times, I did not lose the desire to want to know more about life and why some things happen beyond our control.

But the more I learn about God, the more I want people to know Him. He has turned my life around in ways I never thought were possible. When, in the devotional, I read that "we, as students, have a responsibility to become life-long learners, and that we represent more than ourselves, but are also vessels of God", I whole-heartedly agree. We, as students, will be learning things that the average person doesn't know about God, and their place in the world. When we go out into the world with the knowledge we have, people will look to us for understanding in the things of God. I believe that it's great to learn things, but what good is the knowledge if it is not used.

No matter what the circumstances in our lives, God can use us. We see people in third world countries who don't have anything to their names being touched by the Gospel, and then going out and telling others what they have heard. What makes us qualified to teach the world about Jesus? God does at the moment of salvation. But the only way we will be respected as Daniel was is to live our lives by God's standards. That is how Daniel rose in the Court. He didn't let circumstances or temptations keep him from being all that God had called him to be. And neither should we.
