Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. II Timothy 2:15 KJV

What does it look like to rightly divide the word of truth? How do we do this? Why is it important?

I work with a man that lives this verse in his everyday life. His aunt left a Bible when she died. It was literally falling apart from her use of it. Every morning, my coworker brings some of the loose pages with him to work. Throughout the day, he reads from the Word of God when his work is caught up. He devours the Word. He pursues the Creator. He wants to worship and know his Savior better. He wants to encourage those of us around him to read God’s Bible and fall in love with Jesus every day. He searches out opportunities to read about and learn from God. He lives in awe of who our God is.

My friend knows the precepts of God to be life giving as it says in Psalm 119:93. He devours the precepts wanting a closer relationship, desiring a right walk with God. By constantly consuming the Bible, my coworker is developing his understanding of the Spirit leading him to glorify God in his life. He know he needs the strength for his daily life that only can be found in the precious, Holy Bible. He seeks to know God’s desires for his life. He wants to be used of God as an honorable vessel set apart as holy, useful to the master, ready for every good work.
(II Timothy 2:21)

Watching this man pursue our Lord in a very real and personal relationship encourages me to do the same. I want to know more of the God that my coworker is so excited to serve. I want my faith to grow. I want to be a willing servant. I want these things more after seeing how much my friend wants these things and how he zealously pursues Him.

This man spends his life pursuing God Almighty, Father and Creator of everything. His actions cause me to examine mine. Am I this excited about following Christ? Do I look forward to the time I can spend with God? Do I long to know more of His Word? Do others see my life and want the God I serve? Do I learn the Word not only for my benefit or do I desire to share it and have others come to Jesus? Does my level of excitement cause others to glorify God?

As Christians, we are to be light. My coworker realizes this. He knows without pursuing the Light, he cannot be light to others. Rightly dividing the Word not only means we actually read the Bible, but that we also understand what we read. We need to put into action what we read and believe. The more we read of who our wonderful God is, the more our love for Him and our love for others should grow. God desires to use us. He wants us to know Him deeper and better everyday. His Word is our guide. His Word is our love letter from God. He wants to use us to bring others to Himself. He loves us. We find this all in His Word. How precious that He does not ever leave us but is always with us! How beautiful that He loves us this much!

Prayer:
Father, God,
How amazing you are. What a joy to read your Holy Word and know more of your wonder! Help me to grow in my excitement for serving you and loving others. Use your Word to change me into who you want me to be. May I understand what I read and be able to share it with others. Help me be a willing servant for your honor and glory.
In the mighty name of Jesus,
Amen.
