A Listening Heart

Upon waking I recognize the familiar tune recycling in my mind. “A Listening Heart” is the perfect song to summon me into quietness. How else am I able to fully hear the voice of God? My journal entry is energized from the song God used to wake me.

A listening heart: three commanding words that make a marvelous way to start the day. Lord, I want to always hear your guiding voice. Even in the stillness of silence I always want to follow you. A listening heart, please anoint upon me Lord.

Like sheep that follow their shepherd’s voice, I want to follow yours. In the stillness of my listening heart you lead me in ways that renew my weakening spirit. You alone see truth in my heart. You alone fill my heart with your wisdom. You alone grace me with another day. You alone can wake me from deep slumber in such a unique way that brightens my day.

Make in me a clean heart where I can hear the Holy Spirit whispers. I am restless until I rest in you Lord. Be the pillow where my head can rest without anxieties of the day. A listening heart is what I know you want for me too. Silence the world so I can only hear you.
