You Are Special To God

Jesus tells His disciples in St. Matthew 10:29-31, Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? And one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows. You are special to God.

I wonder if we really know how special we are to God. Sometimes, we go through the issues of life and get to a point were our backs are against the wall. Because of this, we get down on ourselves and adopt a negative self image. With all these issues, we think that nobody cares. We devalue our own self worth and may expect others to do the same. Sadly, many of our family members and friends treat us with this same disregard and contribute to the pain.

Throughout life, we hear comments such as you’re not that special, who do you think you are. That type of language is negative and comes from people who are often negative about themselves. If someone has told you that you are not special, know in your heart that you are special to God.

You are the glory of God’s creation, the top of all things created. You are fearfully and wonderfully made(Psalms 139:14). King David said “How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand. When I awake, I am still with thee(Psalms 139:17-18).

There is not a minute that goes by that the Lord does not think about his people. No matter what wrong we have done, God awaits us with stretched out hands. Man will turn his back on you but not God. Man will let you down but not God. Man will bless and curse you but not God.

In St. John 16:32, Jesus says behold the hour cometh. Yea is now come that ye shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the father is with me. When all of the people who you think are your friends forsake you and flee, know that the Father is with you because you are special.

Just as the Lord’s eyes are upon the sparrow believe that his eyes are watching over you.

In concluding, For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life (St. John 3:16). If you were not special to God, he would not have offered you eternal life. We hold a special place in the heart of God, a place that nothing else can compare. Amen.
