Remember the colloquial expression “outta sight!”? It meant and continues to mean something positive like “fantastic!” or “wonderful!” It may have been related to the hippies’ “far out” in that something or someone was so “out there” beyond this earth that they were no longer even visible. But in the Christian sense to be out of sight means we are in Christ’s shadow or hidden behind Him. It is even better than or beyond being “crucified with Christ” as the Apostle Paul wrote in the second chapter of his epistle to the Galatians, it is being BURIED with him. Burial with Christ is also considered to be one of at least 4 spiritual seasons through which we pass repeatedly and even rhythmically. One who is buried is definitely out of sight, and until we are out of sight like that we are not even candidates for the season of resurrection, and the resurrection life and power that flows from the reality of being raised with Christ.
