THERE IS NO MIDDLE GROUND
You cannot share your loyalty between two masters. HE who serves two masters must lie to one. It is also well known that a pig with two masters soon starve. There can never be two masters in a ship. There is no middle ground in life. Nature does not permit. You cannot sit on the fence. Your allegiance must be to God or the devil. You cannot serve God and Satan at the same time
Joshua 24:15-16 “And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord choose for yourselves these days whom you will serve whether the gods which your father served that were on the other side of the river , or the gods of the Amorites in whose land your wells “But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”
16: Far be it from us that we should forsake the Lord to serve other gods. The people had to decide whether they would obey the Lord who had proven his trustworthiness or obey the local gods which were only man-made idols. It is easy to step into a quiet rebellion going about life in your own way. But the time comes when you have to chose who or what will control you. The choice is yours. Will it be God, your own limited personality, or another perfect substitute? Once you have chosen to be controlled by God’s spirit reaffirm your choice every day.
Instability led the Israelites to captivity. Gen 49:4 “ Unstable as water you shall not excel……”. You will always lose when your heart is not fixed on God. James said a double minded man will not receive anything from the Lord.
To the Church in Laodicea
Rev 3:15-16 “I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor not. I wish you were one or the other. So because you are Luke warm- neither hot or cold I am about to spit you out of my mouth. Laodicea was the wealthiest of the seven cities, known for it’s banking industry, manufacturer of wool and a medical school that produce eye salde. But the city had always has a problem with its water supply. At one time an aqueduct was built to bring water to the city from hot springs. But by one time the water reached the city, it was neither hot nor refreshing cool – only Lukeworm. The Church had become as bland as the tepid water that came into the city. The Laodicean church was complacent and rich. The felt self-satisfied, but they didn’t have Christ presence among them. Christ knock the door of their hearts but they were so busy enjoying the worldly pleasures that they didn’t notice that he was trying to enter. The pleasure of this world-money, security, material possession can be dangerous because their temporary satisfaction makes us indifferent God’s offer of lasting satisfaction. Don’t settle for following God HALF WAY. There is nothing more disgusting than half hearted. In-name-only Christian who is self-sufficient. Leave the door of your heart constantly open to God and you won’t need to worry about hearing His knock. Letting Him in is your only hope for lasting fulfillment.
2 King 17:26-27 “So they spoke to the king of Assyria saying “The nation whom you have removed and placed in the city of Samaria do not know the rituals of the God of the land. Therefore, He had sent Lions, among them and indeed they are killing them because they do not know the rituals of the God of the land”.
The Israelites were move out of Samaria by the king of Assyria because they disobey God. Foreigners from the Assyrian empire were sent to resettle in the land Samaria. This policy helped Assyria keep peace in conquered territories. The mixture of people resettled in Israel can be known as Samaritans. They were despised by the Jew even though the time of Christ (John 40:9). The new settlers in Israel worship God without giving up their pagan customs. They worshipped God to appease Him rather than to please him. Remember you cannot add to God. Those people were serving other gods and at the same time serving the God of Israel. Many people claim to believe in God while refusing to give up attitude and action that God denounces.
1Corithians 10:21-22 “ You cannot drink the cup of the lord and cup of demons, you cannot partake of the Lord’s table and of the table demons or do we provoke the Lord to jealous? Are we stronger than Him?
As the followers of Christ we must give him our total allegiance. We cannot have a part in both the Lord’s table and table of demon. Eating at the Lord’s table means communing with Christ and identifying with his death. Eating at the demons tables means identifying with satan by worshipping or promoting evil activities. Are you trying to lead TWO LIVES, following the desire of both Christ and the crowd. The bible says that you can’t do both at the same time.
Matt. 7:24: No one can serve two masters for either he will hate one and love the other or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.
Jesus contrasted heavenly values with earthly values when he explained that our first loyalty should be to those things that do not fade cannot be stolen or used up and never wear out. We should not be fascinated with our possessions lest they possess us. This means we may have to do some calling back if our possessions are becoming too important to us. Jesus is calling for a decision that allows to live contended with whatever we have because we have chosen what is eternal and lasting.
