THE SIN OF JUDAH
Judah was the forth son of 12, through whom God would eventually bring David and Jesus, the messiah. Judah had some strengths and weaknesses, accomplishments and mistakes. He was a natural leader, outspoken and decisive, thought clearly and took action in high pressure situations, he suggested to his brothers that Joseph should be sold to slavery. Judah offered to substitute his life for Benjamin, which is the picture of what his descendant Jesus would do for al people . Jacob blessed each of his sons and then made a prediction about each one�s future. The way the men had lived played important in Jacob�s blessing and prophecy.
, Judah, your brothers will praise you: your hand will be on the neck of your enemies. Your father�s sons bow down to you. You are a lion�s cub, O Judah you return from the pray, my son�� The scepter will not depart from Judah nor the ruler�s staff from between his feet until he comes to whom it belongs and the obedience of the nation is his.
God has chosen Judah to be ancestor of Israel�s line of king. But in 1 Samuel 8, the Israelites demanded for a king, but Samuel asked God and He gave them a king from the tribe of Benjamin, Why not from the tribe of Judah because God had said that king will come from this tribe. Do you remember Judah committed adultery with his daughter-in-law. Judah committed an incest, God was angry with Judah�s sin. In , one of illegitimate birth shall not enter the assembly of the Lord even to the tenth generation, none of his descendants shall enter the assembly of the Lord.
Judah had an illegitimate affair with Tamar, his daughter in-law. Judah�s error affected his generation.
�The Book of Genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham, Abraham begot Isaac, Isaac begot Jacob, Jacob begot Judah and his brothers, Judah begot Perez and Zerah by Tamar, Perez begot Hezron and Hezron begot Ram, Ram begot Amminadah, Amminadah begot Nahshon and Nahshon begot Salmon and Salmon begot Boaz by Rahab, Boaz begot Obed by Ruth, Obeh begot Jesse and Jesse and Jesse begot David the King. �
If you count from Judah to David it was ten generations. David became king whose line Jesus Christ came into the world.
Lamentation 5:7-9. Our fathers sinned are no more but we bear their iniquities, servant rule over us. There is none to deliver us from their hands. We get our bread at the risk of our lives because of the sword in the wilderness.
God is able to restore our wasted years if we really trust Him for turn around. King David and Jesus Christ came from the tribe of Judah. God is a covenant keeping God . I pray past sins will not destroy future generation. Amen.
