Grace. When I think of the word grace I envision my BFF Janet’s smile. She battled breast cancer for 6 years. Towards the end of her life here on earth, she battled what grace meant. She is now in heaven smiling as big as ever because she attained the crown of her salvation. She ran the race fabulously and won the prize, eternity in heaven with our Creator. Why did she get breast cancer? As I write this tears swell up in my eyes. The letters are becoming blurry. But I know that the why is now so ever evident. Her oldest son contemplated his mortality and decided to turn to God for answers. He searched out the scriptures and surrendered his soul to God. He studied the bible, repented, and got baptized.

A seed cannot produce fruit unless it dies. What is the greatest joy for any parent? Our children’s happiness! How much more important than their temporary worldly happiness is their permanent eternal happiness?

So when you think of Mother’s day, think about how much your mom loves you. Think about her sacrifices so that you could become the person you are today. Then turn back to her and thank her. Buy her a surf and turf dinner, give her spa certificate, or take her out for the day. Time is precious. Tomorrow is not guaranteed, not for you and not for her as she ages. Yes we too are aging. My bones remind me every time is rains or the next day after a workout at the gym.

If you need a reminder of the kind of world we live in simply turn on the TV hear the news. This world is in a spiritual battle, good vs evil, angels vs demons. Whether you want to acknowledge it or stick your head in the sand and ignore it, we are in a battle every day, a battle for our souls, a battle against the things that destroy not just our physical battle but our moral character.

I worked as a Social Worker for many years. In that time I learned so much about character. Either you have it or you don’t. Where is character learned, pruned, or groomed? At home. Yes parents, we can’t expect the school system, the TV or the babysitter to raise our children. That’s our job. And we can’t expect society to fix them once we have abandoned or neglected our parenting job. A child needs to be taught obedience to authority and moral character. The bible says that a parent that loves his child will discipline him (or her) and a parent that hates his child will not. I am certain with every fiber of my being that you love your child. So you have to own your role as a parent, as the authority figure in your child’s life. My mom says, “Be the captain of your ship”.

And as you look behind to your past, forgive the mistakes of your parents. Forgiveness is for you just as much as it is for them. You can’t reconcile until your forgive. As you embrace the present remember that it’s temporary so cherish it. As you look forward to the future, do so soberly realizing that life is a mist and one day you will meet your maker. What will you say on judgment day? I was too busy, I didn’t have enough time, I was too hurt or broken, I was too_________________________ ( You fill in the blank).

The Bible says that we will each have to account for our life on earth. I read somewhere that the talents you have is God’s gift to you and what you do with those talents is your gift to God. What’s your purpose in life? How are you using your talents to glorify God? Are you a D.O.J (disciple of Jesus)? Disciple simply means a student. We are all students of someone. Choose to be a student of what’s going to lead you to heaven (not hell). We are all created to worship. We either worship God or we don’t meaning we worship Satan (or some other version like ourselves).

I apologize in advance if this offends or insults you but I care deeply about the condition of your soul and its destination. We are all immigrants on this earth just passing through. My citizenship is in heaven, where is yours?

To conclude I implore you to take a good look into your soul, at your calendar, in the mirror and be honest with yourself. Once you are then you can see where the changes need to be made in your life. The bible calls us all to repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of our sins, for the gift of the Holy Spirit. This is God’s promise to each and every one of us and to our children.

We spend money on insurance, car insurance, health insurance, life insurance. But do you invest in the most important insurance of all spiritual insurance. All those other types of insurance require a price to be paid and expire. The spiritual insurance that Jesus already paid for you by dying on the cross is permanent, has no black outdates and the balance is paid in full.
