Waking this morning to the wind howling and the rain beating down in torrents, I was somewhat uneasy and concerned about the hurricane barreling down the coast toward Virginia Beach where I live.

I turned on the news to hear about all the terrible destruction that had happened in Florida and I begin to pray for those whose lives have been disrupted by this storm.

When I went to my computer and opened my e-mail, there it was. Every morning of my life, my wife, Trish, sends me a love note via e-mail. She rises way before me to have her personal Bible study and prayer time and she writes me a love note.

My tears began to fall as I read her note this morning. With so many concerns about the storm, my mind was on the possible destruction all about me. My wife’s mind was on the other side of the storm and the beauty of the rain.

I want to share with you the love note she wrote me during this storm. I pray it will bless you as it did me.

Here it is:

I awoke this morning to the tapping of raindrops on the roof.... and I imagined that the rain was like voices...and it reminded me of our love.

When we first met and fell in love, the rain-voices were a chorus, pouring down on us, drenching us in an exuberant storm, drowning out all other sounds, so that all we heard and saw was each other.... it was an exciting time, full of new discoveries, new feelings, and re-awakened hearts.

As time passes, and we married, and realized the joy of being together all the time, the rain softened, a constant backdrop to all we do and say...like voices murmuring in the distance.... indistinct, but there.... and the world tries to come in and overcome those small voices.... but each morning we turn to Jesus...Who is at the controls, and He turns up the volume.

We look out the window and see the rain all around us, like God's blessings, soaking all of our world in His grace...and the world fades to nothing, and we rejoice in the rain - listening to the voices in it, drops of love falling on our faces, splashing joy into each minute...puddles of happiness under our feet...and the wonder of it all spills over and we dance like children in the rain...hearing nothing but the soft voices of love in the raindrops.

This is a reminder to turn to Jesus during the storms of our life…be they like the hurricane or be they of situations that arise in our lives. Turn to Jesus and hear the soft voices of love.
