In the Book of Proverbs there is a clear directive given for the training and upbringing of our children. This directive has often been repeated by Christians for many years primarily as a principle for ensuring the proper direction and discipline to be used in our homes. However, what has not often been emphasized is that this directive was directed specifically to parents for their parental guidance of their own children. This is a significant point, and was issued that parents should be the ones who would be responsible for the upbringing of their own children. The point of this directive is to ensure that Biblical principles are instilled in each child during their formative years.
This directive is found in Proverbs 22:6:
6 Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it. NKJV
To further the emphasis of this directive there is an additional point made in Proverbs 4:1-2:
1 Hear, my children, the instruction of a father, And give attention to know understanding;
2 For I give you good doctrine: Do not forsake my law. NKJV
This Scripture makes it even more clear that the intent is that parents, here specifically fathers, are the ones who are responsible for instilling values in their children. The instructions given in this training by parents should provide the understanding needed for our children to be grounded in Christian values. This point is further enhanced in Ephesians 6:4:
4 And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord. NKJV
These Scriptures place the responsibility for training and instilling spiritual, social and moral values solely in the hands of the parents of their children. Nowhere in Scripture is there found any inferences or suggestions of governmental interference in instilling these values in our children.
In defiance of Scriptural references to the proper training of our children, our government has been determined to transfer these responsibilities to our government-run schools. The goal is for these schools to become the authority for instilling principles and social and spiritual values in our children, in an effort to program their value system to be based on cultural and political norms, while eliminating any remaining Biblical or spiritual influences . This, once considered "brainwashing", now as a result of political correctness is called “indoctrination", which, although as disturbing, is less offensive to many. Palatable terms are often used to camouflage truth.
There was a time when indoctrination in our schools was as simple as teaching evolution as a scientific fact rather than theory, in an effort to replace God's version of creation as shown in Scripture. The indoctrination has since become much broader and more widespread, with an emphasis on teaching our children, although sometimes subtly, to not trust Scripture regarding many issues or base their morals and principles on what is contained in God's Word.
Karl Marx, considered the father of Communism, is quoted as saying, “To conquer a nation, you just have to block the transfer of values, morals and beliefs between generations.” This principle is being applied by our own government to gain control of the values, morals and beliefs of our children.
Included in the extensive list of 1963 Communist Goals, many of which have been accepted as feasible and instrumental in accomplishing the goals of our own government and therefore incorporated into our own country’s goals, are the following excerpts:
17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers' associations. Put the party line in textbooks.
18. Gain control of all student newspapers.
31. Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the ground that it was only a minor part of the "big picture." Give more emphasis to Russian history since the Communists took over.
32. Support any socialist movement to give centralized control over any part of the culture--education, social agencies, welfare programs, mental health clinics, etc.
40. Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce.
41. Emphasize the need to raise children away from the negative influence of parents. Attribute prejudices, mental blocks and retarding of children to suppressive influence of parents.
The efforts by our government to gain control of the minds of our children are becoming extremely successful and largely unnoticed by many parents, who might wonder why their children are becoming increasingly unmanageable. Many parents fail to recognize that the increasing loss of Biblical values would necessarily result in the loss of control of their children. Our government, while pretending to assist with this problem by offering half-hearted suggestions, realize that their efforts toward the control of the minds of our children are being successful.
American parents must begin to recognize the basis of the problems they’re having in the upbringing of their children. First of all, American culture is not evolving; it’s devolving. This fact alone would guarantee that the rejection of Biblical principles and the acceptance of rapidly-evolving modern-day social principles in their place will result in an increasing inability to control their children. Adding to that the reinforcement of these social principles by our news media, television programming and the widely-used social media, this problem is somewhat overwhelming to those parents who would attempt to instill Biblical principles in their children.
Some parents recognize that the training of their children should be based on Christian values that are based on Scripture, no matter how inconvenient, and should not be based on the present-day manipulation of social values. Some parents already recognize that when these Christian values are instilled in children by parents, it’s proper training; but when social values are instilled by our government-run schools, it’s indoctrination.
When recognizing that principles and beliefs should be instilled in children by their parents, not by our government-run schools, parents may choose to send their children to Christian schools to assist in the training and affirmation of Christian-based values. This would be helpful in enforcing the parents’ responsibility to determine what principles are to be instilled in their children. Christian parents must fight for the minds of their children and do whatever is necessary to thwart the attempts by others to control their minds and re-program their beliefs.
Christian parents should understand that the proper role of government-run schools is to teach our children how to study and how to learn; but it is not their role to indoctrinate them regarding spiritual and moral values or to attempt to refute those principles or destroy the beliefs that are being instilled in them by their parents or church leaders.
We also need to be keenly aware that the issue of indoctrination is not isolated to the lower grade levels, but continues through the upper grade levels and through high school. Then it becomes more personally directed at the college and university level for those students who were able to resist these efforts in their earlier classes. The goal of most colleges and universities is to complete this indoctrination by intensifying this effort by placing emphasis on the tenets of humanism and socialism. Many students have been subjected to harsh criticism and given unfair grades because of their resistance toward and refusal to accept the indoctrination aimed at pressuring them to deny the truth of God’s Word and/or the principles upon which our nation was formed.
For those parents who choose to ignore or rationalize the seriousness of this issue, they should recognize that, what you try to avoid, you empower.
