TO GET, GIVE!
While the earth remains seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, and day and night shall not cease Gen. 8: 22.
I was at the countryside last Christmas season. It may interest you to know that my people are peasant farmers. The whole community was agog with festivities as people celebrated not only Christmas, but also the bumper harvest of the previous farming season. Everyone had something to rejoice about, except one of my uncles. what happened? I asked him.
You know things were rather tight for me before the last planting season, “he replied”. I had to sell off some of the seeds I had reserved for planting. At the start of the planting season, I did not have much to sow, and that affected my harvest” sad as it was, I returned to Lagos after the festivities with a definite lesson that you only reap in proportion to what you sow.
Now, it is interesting that every achievement in life is usually the result of an investment. In other words, there is no output without some input. To have a desired harvest, you must sow the required seed. That is just the way God made it. We call it the seed principle or the law of sowing and reaping.
Right from creation, God endowed man with definite seeds of greatness. So we all have something to sow towards a desired promotion or goal in life it may be a simple act of kindness or a word of encouragement. It could be a bunch of flowers or a few minute of time. It may just be some smile or a few words of communication. That seed even be your special gift or ability. The truth is, if you want to abound or be rich in any area of life you must be ready to sow the necessary seed. It has been rightly said that it’s what each of us sows, and how, that gives to us character and prestige. Seeds of kindness, goodwill and human understanding, planted in fertile soil, spring up into deathless friendship, big deeds of worth, and a memory that will not soon fade out. We are all sowers of seeds-and let us never forget it!
How, you will remember Colgate, the business mogul. His story is that of wealth, fame and rich fulfillment in life. But how did he acquire such a status? One account has it that as a nine years old, he heard a sermon on giving. He was deeply touched by the message, and he immediately made a commitment to give ten percent of every dollar he gets to the work of God. By the time he was in his twenties he was already a millionaire. The percentage of what he was giving to missions steadily increased until he was giving practically one hundred percent of his earnings. Today his prosperity is reaping part of the harvest accruing from his giving as Colgate has become a house hold name all over the world.
G.D Bordmen said, “The law of harvest is to reap more than you sow” come to think of it, you always reap more than you sow. For example, it takes just one grain of corn to produce several hundreds or even thousands. Nature it self watches over everything you sow to ensure it brings forth a good harvest, Jesus said in the Gospel according to St. Mark, chapter 4, verse 26-28, “The kingdom of God is as if a man should sow seed on the ground, and should sleep night and rise by day, and the seed should sprout and grow, he himself does not know how. For the earth yields crops by itself: first the blade, then the head, after that the full grain in the head,”
Can I advise you? Look for seeds in everything you do or possess. God will never create without seeds- they are your only bridge to increase or greatness. So do not mess around with your seeds. Paul said in his epistle to the Galatians “… whatever a man sows, that he will also reap” (Gal 6:7).
The irony of our times is that men often sow hatred and expect to reap love. A lot sow discord and except to reap peace. If you sow the wind, the Bible says you will reap the whirlwind. Now we understand why the Lord Jesus Christ would advise. “Whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them” (Matt7:13). And in the words of Zig Ziglar, “Life is an echo. what you send out comes back”.
You must watch your words. This is one area people sow the wrong seeds. Words bring forth after their kind. Until you speak success words, you may never be successful. Until you speak increase to your life, you may never experience increase. So align the words you speak with the word of God concerning you. Speak God’s word to yourself, your family, your business and everyone around you. You will be amazed at the harvest you will get. And you must patiently expect your harvest. According to John Avazini, lack of patience can cancel your harvest. Your own harvest will not be cancelled, in Jesus name.
Remember, God ordained the seed principle, so He carefully watches over every seed you sow to ensure it brings forth. Your harvest becomes more bountiful and rewarding when you get Him involved in your sowing why not surrender to Him.
