World Affairs
At issue are the plans and schemes that are being implemented by man according to his own desires for advancement and pleasure, in comparison to the plans that God has for man and the edicts that He has provided for man to follow.
God’s agenda for man has been defined in great detail in His Word. Although well aware of this, man has repeatedly chosen to ignore many of them and, even worse, often to declare that many of them are unfair, cruel or man-made. Many are determined to justify their refusal to accept God’s plans for man by asserting their belief that God does not exist, or that God does not intervene in the affairs of man, or that God is too loving to punish man for failure to follow His plans for man. Many feel that God created a system of restrictions simply to rob us of many of the pleasures of life; therefore they are justified in ignoring them. Others simply feel that the pleasures they enjoy in life will be worth whatever punishment God has for them later.
Many seem to feel that constant avoidance of or refusal to obey God’s Laws will cause God to change His mind or His standards in order to bring harmony between His Will and the will of those in denial. Therefore, they continue to move further away from God’s Laws without fear or concern.
And then, there are those who choose to twist the meaning of the passages contained in God’s Word. This enables them to pretend to comply while actually being in conflict with His Laws.
Whatever the rationale, man collectively has his own agendas, and they often conflict with God’s agenda for man. But the truth is, man’s agenda is being dictated by a self-centered mindset and also by the world’s system, which is becoming controlled more and more by a secular, anti-Christian mindset and an active movement that is in direct opposition to what is contained in God’s Word.
But God’s Word is clear regarding His plans for mankind, beginning with His Commandments and continuing throughout His Written Word. His resolve is described in Psalm 33:11-15:
11 The counsel of the LORD stands forever, The plans of His heart to all generations.
12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, The people He has chosen as His own inheritance.
13 The LORD looks from heaven; He sees all the sons of men.
14 From the place of His dwelling He looks on all the inhabitants of the earth;
15 He fashions their hearts individually; He considers all their works. NKJV
Then the futility of disobedience toward His plans is described in Psalm 11:10:
10 The LORD brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect. NKJV
And He adds to this His warning to those who choose to ignore His plans in Isaiah 20:1:
1 "Woe to the rebellious children," says the LORD, "Who take counsel, but not of Me, And who devise plans, but not of My Spirit, That they may add sin to sin; NKJV
So how does man’s agenda fail to coincide with God’s agenda? First of all, any agenda conceived by man that does not take God’s agenda into consideration is inherently ill-conceived. By not considering God’s Law, man cannot devise a plan or agenda that is acceptable to God. Therefore, and according to His Word, man’s plans that are in disobedience to His Word will be brought to nothing and will be of no effect. Those plans will be overridden by God’s Plans.
Here He has added a further warning in the form of a “Woe”, which is a condition of deep suffering from misfortune, affliction or grief. What God is expressing is that man’s agenda that is created without considering God’s agenda is not only doomed for failure, but that failure will be accompanied by much suffering.
This should serve as a clear warning to America in view of its clear path away from God’s Laws and away from the plans God has created for us. In its continued defiance, America has forgotten that it was founded on Biblical principles and that its founders placed their trust in God to preserve and prosper America because of our trust in Him. Since our founding each successive generation has drifted further and further away from that commitment and has finally nearly completely abandoned the commitment.
This separation from God has been due to an increasing arrogance, mostly by our leaders, who feel little need to rely on the help of God for our success. But this arrogance has also filtered down throughout the American culture, despite the presence of the Christian community, which, unfortunately, has largely participated in this movement away from God’s agenda.
There was a time when America’s response to a crisis was to seek God for direction and strength. This prayerful attitude was not limited to the pulpits of the churches, but was carried by our government leaders, who would often pray and ask the people throughout America to seek God for His direction, strength and help in getting us through the crisis at hand.
In our present anti-Christian environment each new crisis is addressed by infighting within our government by our leaders who blame each other for the crisis while doing little to actually resolve the problems causing the crisis. Meanwhile, our media chooses sides, invariably ending up on the same side each time, and issues one-sided reports that prevent the objective relay of information pertaining to the crisis. Therefore, the public has little correct information with which to form an accurate assessment of the crisis, usually leading to responses that are misguided.
Therefore, failure to consider God’s Word has led to an increasing arrogance by our leaders that has led to an increasing arrogance by the people. This, of course, has taken us further and further from God’s agenda for America and is a fulfillment of God’s Word regarding what happens when we replace God’s plan with our own plans.
But God’s warning should be clear to America as spoken in Jeremiah 18:7-10:
7 The instant I speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, to pull down, and to destroy it, 8 if that nation against whom I have spoken turns from its evil, I will relent of the disaster that I thought to bring upon it.
9 And the instant I speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it, 10 if it does evil in My sight so that it does not obey My voice, then I will relent concerning the good with which I said I would benefit it. NKJV
America has been warned many times concerning its departure from God’s Word. God has been extremely patient with America, waiting for us to return to His agenda. But, according to His Word, there will come a time when He will cease to wait for America to return to Him. At that time arrogance will not be enough to save us.
Nothing can save America except acceptance of the truth.
