I sit beneath the cross and cry
Cry for loved ones, long gone by
The pain it tears me, tears me apart
Wrenches the very depth of my heart

This is an emptiness I can’t explain
I want to be there, it’s not the same
Another hollow, it forms deep within
I sit beneath the cross in sin

Tears of sorrow, tears of shame
I want to be there, and here in name
But Jesus only, truly understands
His love is all that can fill with His hand

He gives, He takes away
And none of us is here to stay
May compassion from close ones overflow
And God our Father His mercy show

I sit beneath the cross and cry
And watch my tears flow endlessly by
They mingle with His shed, crimson blood
A peace envelops from the wings of the Dove
