Who says we can't put a square peg in a round hole? I did it recently, maybe prophetically. Only it was a square-based milk carton I forced gently, paradoxically into a round hole or slot. It was only possible because the carton was soft and flexible. Therein is the key: soft; softness, softheartedness or soft-treadedness if there was such a word. There may be times that require us to so fit. It's not a permanent fit, but for a season and for a specific purpose. If we can adapt and adjust to a wrong-shaped slot, it may be a steppingstone toward the slot that is more suited and even custom-made. (Perfection, remember, is to be suited to a purpose) We may have to "force ourselves" but there is a slow deliberate, gentle way to do it so that no damage is incurred, but only present benefit(s) for ourselves and for others.

How often I've felt like a square peg in a round hole throughout my life. Your article is short and to the point; I think well done. I appreciate your imagery of the milk carton being flexible enough to mold itself to the round hole without totally losing what it was. I think that many times people fear that surrendering to God and Christ with a tender heart means forfeiting who God made use to be. Like the milk carton, we are molded for a time to this spot so we may change and get the lesson God wants us to learn in that time and place. I like it.
