Once upon a time, there was a small village that rested at the base of a large mountain. This village had once been a place a delightful place filled with joy, laughter, love, and festivities. Then one day, an enemy came from afar spreading rumors of wars and bringing the village to ruin. There was no more joy or laughter. There was no more love or festivities. Instead, the people lived in constant fear of war. Naturally, they did not want to believe the rumors or fight in a war. But, as their fears surpassed their love for one another, they all began fighting a different kind of war not fought against an outside enemy, but against each other. Until one evening, a man who had become sick and tired of living in fear and believing lies decided he had had enough. He would set out the next morning to meet with the Lord who lived in the house that was at the top of the mountain next to his village. There were no sounds coming from the village as he left that morning until a bird broke the silence with a song that brought some relief to his heavy spirit.

He was weeping over the absence of joy in his village as he walked up the mountain when he heard something that sounded like a dragon. He froze as he saw the beast approaching. The beast had ten horns and seven heads and it was obvious that it would useless to wage war against it. So, he didn’t. He stood there in silence and felt that each breath might be his last. He opened his eyes to take one last look at the beast that would take his life only to see him run right past him as though he were blind. “It seems that even terrifying beasts have their weaknesses” he said to himself.

When he reached about half way up the mountain the sun began to set. The darkness swallowed everything until he could not see his own hands in front of him. The absence of light revealed what a burden the days had become in the village. The darkness was a relief from seeing all of the brutality and recklessness. He thought, “It may be that in darkness one is better able to see God.”

The sun began to rise as the darkness finished purifying his heart. He could see he was getting close to meeting the Lord at the top of the mountain. He started walking faster with unwavering faith that he was close to learning what the Lord required to restore his village.

He let out a sigh of relief as he reached the finish line. In his journey, he had overcome darkness, a giant beast, and a poor spirit with no weapon, sword, or fear. Now, he was filled with optimism about meeting the Lord.

The wind blew against him and he could see a pasture covered with dew with a lion and a lamb grazing in it. A house like a precious stone was behind them.

Then Lord appeared and came to greet him. He said,

“I am so glad you decided to seek me in your in your troubles. Go back and tell your village that if they seek the truth they will have nothing to fear. His name is Jesus.”
