This pull quote from the Prologue of “Men On Strike” by Helen Smith, Ph.D (2013, Encounter Books, 216 pages) gives you a clear look at the playing field, and finally articulates what REAL men have been saying since America became officially ‘feminized’ in the 1990s. While the book has been classified as a Social Sciences/Men’s Studies work, it illustrates--in plain language--why social programs aiming at ‘reaching’ men have failed: The wrong questions were often asked and the truth overlooked!

For example: our current political landscape has become ‘anti’ male…from the White House to your house. Society has been dominated by angry women, white knights and Uncle Tims (an unholy trio which the author defines in several parts of the book). Real men, in general, are suffering under ‘an estrogen-charged tsunami’. Smith, who has a background in psychology has gathered much of her information in interviews and blogging with real men from many walks of life. And she has LISTENED. Yes, she provides some statistics, but she also provides the evidence as to why men--of all races--are ‘going Galt’, or have merely gone ‘On Strike’ as providers, protectors and leaders. The official title of the work is: “Men On Strike: Why Men Are Boycotting Marriage, Fatherhood, and the American Dream--and Why It Matters”. Smith is married, a mother, and has been cheered on by her family in this groundbreaking work.

This IS a ‘word of mouth’ book. This firmly explodes the myth that men don’t read! Once one DOES get it, you will NOT be able to finish quickly. Why? Each of the six chapters has solid meat that will cause the reader to chew carefully before moving on. Topics such as: “The College Strike: Where the Boys Aren’t”, “Why It Matters”, and “The Marriage Strike: Why Men Don’t Marry” just to name a few. While the book doesn’t offer much in the way of biblical solutions, it provides the ‘missing link’ answers to successfully reach men and understanding the REAL pressures they face. I would urge Pastors to read this work. I would also urge fathers to read this work in order to speak some truth to their own sons AND daughters--especially IF they are nearing college age.

Get out the smelling salts! Smith introduces ‘wisdom fire’ in “Men On Strike”. Get it while you can! You can find it on line--at your favorite Internet book source.
