...And Jesus died

He was the only begotten Son of God
Yet for me He wept;
He was in the bosom of the Father;
From there He stepped
Though being the only One,
The Father’s darling,
Because of love for me,
He cried;
Because of love for me
He died.

He was lifted up - upon a cross
Cross of shame!
He died that I might live;
That was His aim!
Though being the only One,
The Father's darling,
The Mighty God forsook Him
As in agony He cried:
My God, my God!”
And bowed His head
And died.

He was rich,
Yet for my sake
He became poor;
He was lovely,
Yet for my sins
Was made sore;
Though being the Father’s Darling,
The Heaven’s raged,
The firmament shook
God hid His face unable to look
Upon His Son Who cried:
“Why hast You, My God, forsaken Me?”
...And Jesus died.

The temple’s veil was rent,
Salvation’s arrow was sent
To break my hardened heart
And set me FREE.
Though being the Father’s Darling,
Because of love for me,
He cried:
“It is finished,” and bowed His head

...And Jesus died.
