The Bible is a very practical resource. Even though it is not necessarily a detailed road map, it will set you on the correct course if you seek the wisdom and counsel contained within its pages. Here are eight principles that offer wisdom for guidance. The order is not important.
GUIDANCE AND WISDOM PRINCIPLE NUMBER ONE: GET COUNSELING.
Get counseling from various people who you believe can be of the most help to you. This includes professional counselors, if you can afford one. A pastor or priest is good if they have training in counseling, but even that has limitations campared to a professional, and sometimes these people give pat spiritual-sounding answers that don't really help. The Bible says "Where there is no guidance, the people fall, but in abundance of counselors there is victory." Proverbs 11:14
GUIDANCE AND WISDOM PRINCIPLE NUMBER TWO: START MOVING IN THE BEST WAY YOU KNOW HOW.
Start moving, even though you don't have things figured out. Proverbs 3:5-6 is a reminder to "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your path straight." God "will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go." That is a promise given in Psalm 32:8 Then in Psalm 37:5 it says to "commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He will do it."
Don't rely upon human reasoning and understanding.
GUIDANCE AND WISDOM PRINCIPLE NUMBER THREE: MAKE PLANS.
It is okay to make plans and still be in submission to God's will. Proverbs 16:9 says "the mind of man plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps." Proverbs 19:21 states this a little differently. "Many are the plans in a man's heart, But the counsel of the Lord, it will stand."
GUIDANCE AND WISDOM PRINCIPLE NUMER FOUR: GOD WILL NOT WITHHOLD HIS WISDOM FROM YOU BECAUSE OF SOMETHING YOU HAVE DONE OR BECAUSE YOU THINK THAT GOD DOES NOT THINK WELL OF YOU.
God will not withhold His wisdom from you. In James 1:5 we read, "But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men generously and WITHOUT REPROACH, and it will be given him."
GUIDANCE AND WISDOM PRINCIPLE NUMBER FIVE: FOCUS ON STAYING ON THE PATH TO WHERE YOU WANT TO BE.
Jeremiah 31:21 encourages us to "Set up for yourself roadmarks, place for yourself guideposts; direct your mind to the highway."
GUIDANCE AND WISDOM PRINCIPLE NUMBER SIX:SEEK THE HOLY SPIRIT'S PEACE ABOUT WHAT YOU DO.
Seek the Holy Spirit's peace about what you do and don't necessarily follow your emotions. Philippians 4:6-7 exhorts the believer to "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your heart and your mind in Christ Jesus."
These verses tell us that God's peace will keep us from making decisions determined strictly by our emotions, and it will be beyond human understanding.
GUIDANCE AND WISDOM PRINCIPLE NUMBER SEVEN: DELIGHT YOURSELF IN THE LORD.
Delight yourself in the Lord. Make God more important than your dreams or desires. Psalm 37:4 says "Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart."
GUIDANCE AND WISDOM PRINCIPLE NUMBER EIGHT: MEDITATE ON GOD'S WORD.
Meditate on God's word and be obedient. You want to be successful and see positive results in whatever you do. See what Joshua 1:8 has to say. "This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall MEDITATE on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success." Psalm 1:2-3 furthers adds, "But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night. And he will be like a tree firmly planted by the streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season, And its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers."
May you seek God's wisdom and prosper on the path He has for you.
