There have been times in my life when darkness surrounds me and extinguishes all hope. This is the time when I have to trust that God will rekindle my spirit. Does this come easily? It should, since I know God is with me all the time. Once again I allow the enemy, Satan, to use his many fire extinguishers to put out my flame and passion for God. What are some of his ways? I am ashamed to admit to some of these, but they are real. Maybe you share some of these too: laziness, procrastination, depression, busyness, putting others first, and so many more that could easily fill this page. You and I know what puts out the fire fastest, and that is ignoring God and trying to go it alone. This is the biggest mistake you and I can ever make.

There are two things that will start up my flames once more; first is God’s Word. The second way are inspirational songs that heat the fire within. My favorite verse is God’s precious Word to me, “But those that hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on the wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Do I need to give you any more explanation than that? I can put all my hopes and dreams in His capable hands, and know He will not let me fall or even fall apart from the inside out. Praise His Holy Name! Thank You, Jesus!

The lyrics of the song “You’ll Never Walk Alone” come to mind from the movie Carousel…”When you walk through a storm hold your head up high, and don’t be afraid of the dark. [this is where I need God to be holding my hand] At the end of the storm is a golden sky, and the sweet, silver song of a lark. [God is smiling down on me]. Walk on through the wind, walk on through the rain, tho’ your dreams be tossed and blown. [hand in hand with my Lord]. Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart, and You’ll Never Walk Alone; You’ll Never Walk Alone! [God has brought me through that specific storm in my life, and I am on the other side ready to praise and worship Him for helping me persevere through it and come out the better.] God uses many ways to talk with me. This is one of the songs that can help me move past what is troubling me. It will help to stoke the fire within my soul. To clarify the lyrics, the bracketed thoughts are how I envision God helping me through the storm, as I listen to these beautiful and touching words.

Let me assure you of one thing that God has shown me that will give you peace. God has never reminded me of, “Well, you did it again. You let Satan have his way with you.” Instead, He lovingly holds me in His arms and puts His match to my pilot light to get it going again. Are you ready to get that passion back with God? Go ahead, let Him stoke up your fire and let it burn brightly for the One you truly love. It’s doesn’t hurt to have your fire burning once again. I love God so much, and I know He will help me keep the fire burning.
